On average our office is able to get more than 80% of the traffic infractions we defend dismissed on a legal technicality. Depending upon the specific court, our success may be much higher or much lower than that. For instance, in Snohomish, Skagit, and Whatcom County District Courts we can get more than 90% of the speeding tickets that we defend dismissed outright. However, that number goes down significantly in Municipal Courts throughout those same counties.

 

As a general rule, most tickets that are given by State or County police officers are easily defended. That is because those entities issue tens of thousands of tickets each year knowing that 9/10 won't be contested. Most don't utilize their resources prosecuting traffic tickets that are contested and remain content with the millions of dollars that they make on the tickets that aren't. On the other hand, most tickets that are given by city police officers are much harder to defend. That is because cities use traffic tickets as a form of revenue. Most Municipal Courts are designed to get your money every time. The bad news is that most of these tickets don't get dismissed outright. The good news is that the prosecutors usually don't care as much about hurting your driving record as they do getting paid. In these courts our lawyers are usually able to get a dismissal based on legal procedures such as a deferred finding or a stipulated order of continuance.
